Description
Dermal Filler is a soft tissue gel injected into the desired area of the face or hands, made up of hyaluronic acid – a substance that occurs naturally in the body, to help fill volume loss and give skin a smoother younger looking appearance. Dermal fillers are temporary as the body gradually absorbs the gel and can be injected into the different parts of your face, such as the mouth area, marionette lines, jawline, cheeks, around the eyes and lips. Most patients retain their results for 6-12 months, however precisely how long a treatment holds its effect is down to the individual. This depends on many factors, such as age, skin, type and muscle activity.
How do they work?
Dermal filler is used to increase volume and definition. The filler starts to work immediately with instant results. Once the filler restores volume to the desired area, it continues to plump and even out the creases for up to 1 week and generally lasts between 6-12 months.
Why do we have volume loss?
The body produces collagen naturally and is in abundance when young, but production starts to decline with age. We start to lose collagen around our mid-twenties, with levels deteriorating at around 1-1.7% each year and is not replenished. After the age of 30, the effects of collagen loss becomes more noticeable. It decreases further more in women after menopause leading to wrinkles and saggy skin.
What is involved in the treatment?
The method used depends on which area is being treated. The safest method is always chosen whether it be using injections or a blunt ended instrument called cannula, as clients safety and wellbeing is paramount. Before our clients are injected, we use a award winning vein detection device used in the healthcare sector called Accuvein to map out peripheral veins on the skin’s surface. Numbing cream is applied to treated area 20 minutes before the treatment to minimise discomfort. In some cases, the client may require multiple sittings to achieve the desired result.
What are Tear Trough’s
As we age, the area around our eyes start to lose volume, become hollow and give the appearance of dark circles. These can also look worse in appearance when tired or dehydrated.
Dermal fillers are a great way of treating the tear trough area by careful placement of the hyaluronic acid, via a cannula to increase the volume loss and improves the texture of the skin quality by hydrating skin from the inside.
