SkinPen is the world’s first FDA-cleared microneedling device, designed to safely and effectively stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production for visibly smoother, healthier-looking skin.
What is Skin Pen Microneedling?
Skin Pen is a medical-grade, FDA-cleared microneedling device that uses fine, sterile needles to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. This controlled, mechanical action triggers your body’s natural wound-healing response, prompting a significant boost in collagen and elastin production — a process known clinically as collagen induction therapy (CIT).
Unlike energy-based devices, Skin Pen relies purely on precise mechanical micro-injury, with no radiofrequency or heat involved. This makes it a wonderfully versatile option, and one of the most clinically-studied and trusted microneedling devices available anywhere in the world. It is valued by practitioners and clients alike for its precision, its adjustable needle depth, and the consistency of the results it delivers.
At Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, we often describe Skin Pen as the all-rounder of our microneedling treatments. It sits between our gentler SQT microneedling (a silicium-based treatment with no downtime, ideal for those wanting a low-commitment refresh) and our Gold RF microneedling (which combines needles with radiofrequency energy for deeper remodelling and a longer recovery). Skin Pen offers a precise, customisable middle ground — meaningful improvements to texture, scarring, pore size and overall skin quality, with a recovery that fits comfortably into your week.
Because the needle depth can be finely adjusted, your practitioner is able to tailor every session specifically to your skin’s needs, whether you are targeting old acne scarring, fine lines, or simply want your skin to look and feel more refined.
How Does It Work?
During your treatment, your practitioner will adjust the device’s needle depth to suit your specific skin concerns and the area being treated. This means a delicate area like under the eyes can be treated just as safely and effectively as a thicker-skinned area like the cheeks or jawline, all within the same session.
As the fine needles pass over the skin, they create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-injuries. Your body interprets these as a signal to repair and renew, kick-starting a cascade of natural healing activity beneath the surface. Over the following weeks, this translates into fresh collagen and elastin formation, visibly improved texture, and a stronger, healthier skin barrier overall.
This is what makes Skin Pen so effective for long-term skin quality, rather than just a temporary surface change — you are encouraging your own skin to rebuild itself from within.

What Can I Expect?
A typical Skin Pen appointment takes around 45 minutes from start to finish. Before the microneedling begins, your practitioner will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area and allow it time to take effect, ensuring the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
During the treatment itself, most clients describe the sensation as a light vibrating scratch across the skin, rather than anything sharp or painful. It is generally very well tolerated, even on more sensitive areas of the face.
Immediately afterwards, you can expect visible redness similar to a mild sunburn, which typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. Aside from this temporary redness, there is no significant downtime — most clients are comfortable returning to their normal daily routine the following day, perhaps with a little extra care around makeup and sun protection.
Results & How Long Do They Last?
Many clients notice an initial glow within just a few days, as the skin recovers from the treatment and surface texture starts to refine. This early brightness is a great sign that the deeper healing process is underway.
The more significant, collagen-building results develop progressively over the following 4 to 6 weeks, as your body continues to lay down new collagen and elastin in response to the treatment. This is why microneedling is often described as a treatment that keeps working long after you leave the clinic.
For concerns such as acne scarring or textural irregularities, we typically recommend a course of 3 to 4 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Each session builds on the last, with results becoming more pronounced cumulatively across the course.
With this kind of course completed, results are long-lasting, and many clients choose to return for periodic maintenance treatments to keep their skin looking its best as part of an ongoing skincare routine.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Skin Pen microneedling is an excellent option if you are dealing with acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines, uneven texture, or stretch marks, and want a treatment that encourages your own skin to repair and renew itself naturally.
Because it is a purely mechanical treatment with no heat or energy involved, Skin Pen is suitable for most skin types and skin tones — a real advantage over some energy-based devices, which can carry a higher risk of pigmentation changes in darker skin tones. This makes it one of our most inclusive microneedling options at the clinic.
Skin Pen is not suitable during pregnancy, or if you have an active skin infection or breakout in the treatment area. As with all of our treatments, a thorough consultation beforehand will allow us to assess your skin and confirm that Skin Pen is the right choice for you.
Aftercare
Looking after your skin properly after your Skin Pen treatment helps you get the very best results and ensures your skin heals smoothly and comfortably. Please follow this simple aftercare guidance:
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum SPF diligently for at least a week after treatment — your skin will be more sensitive to UV damage while it heals.
- Avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after your session, to reduce the risk of irritation or infection in the freshly-treated skin.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, hot showers and saunas for 24 to 48 hours, as heat and sweat can aggravate the skin while the micro-channels are closing.
- Avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinol and exfoliating acids for several days afterwards, allowing your skin’s barrier time to properly heal before reintroducing stronger products.
