PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) biostimulators are advanced collagen-stimulating injectables that gradually restore volume, lift and skin quality. We offer two premium products: Sculptra and Aesplla.

What is PLLA Treatment?

PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) treatment is a collagen biostimulator — a completely different category of injectable to the hyaluronic-acid fillers and skin boosters you may already be familiar with. Rather than adding immediate volume to a specific area, PLLA works with your body, gently encouraging your own skin to produce new collagen over the weeks and months following treatment. The result is a quality of improvement that simply cannot be achieved by filling alone.

At Skin Rejuvenation Clinic we offer two premium PLLA products, Sculptra and Aesplla, and will help you choose the right one for your skin and goals during your consultation. Sculptra is the original, FDA-approved PLLA biostimulator with a long, well-established safety record, while Aesplla is a newer PLLA option that delivers excellent results at a more accessible price point. Both work on the same underlying principle, and both are administered with the same care and precision you’d expect from our experienced practitioners.

Because the improvement you see comes from your own tissue rebuilding itself, rather than from a foreign substance sitting under the skin, PLLA results look and feel exceptionally natural. There is no sudden, overfilled change to your appearance — instead, friends and family are far more likely to comment that you look "well" or "rested" without being able to put their finger on exactly what you’ve had done.

PLLA is particularly well suited to clients who want to address broader skin quality, firmness and volume loss across the face, rather than targeting one specific feature. It is a wonderful option for anyone who wants to invest in their skin’s long-term health and structure, not just a temporary fix.

How Does It Work?

During your treatment, your practitioner injects the PLLA product at carefully chosen depths and points across the treatment area, mapped out in advance based on your facial anatomy and your goals. Precision matters enormously with biostimulators — the product needs to be placed at the correct depth to trigger the right response in the right layer of tissue, which is why experience and technique make such a difference to your results.

Once in place, the PLLA particles act as a gentle scaffold, triggering your body’s own natural healing response. Your skin responds by laying down new collagen fibres around and within the treated area, gradually rebuilding structural support, density and firmness from within. This isn’t an overnight change; it is a steady, cumulative process that typically unfolds over the following 6 to 12 weeks as your collagen production increases.

Because the effect builds so gradually, the skin has time to adapt and the new collagen integrates naturally with your existing tissue. This is what gives PLLA treatments their characteristically soft, natural-looking outcome — you are not adding something artificial, you are restoring something your skin has gradually lost over time.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid — Progressive Collagen Biostimulation

What Can I Expect?

Your PLLA appointment typically takes around 45 minutes from start to finish, giving plenty of time for your skin to be properly prepared and for the treatment itself to be carried out carefully and without rushing. We’ll start by cleansing the treatment area and, if needed, applying a numbing cream to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout.

Once the area is comfortable, your practitioner will administer the PLLA using a series of small, precisely placed injections. Afterwards, a gentle massage is often used to help distribute the product evenly within the tissue, which is an important part of achieving smooth, natural results.

It’s important to set the right expectations immediately after treatment: because PLLA is a biostimulator rather than a volumising filler, you should expect minimal immediate change in your appearance. This is entirely normal and by design — the real results take time to develop as your own collagen production responds. You may notice some mild swelling or small bumps at the injection sites in the first few hours or days; these settle quickly and are simply part of the body’s natural response to treatment.

Results & How Long Do They Last?

Because PLLA works by stimulating your own collagen production rather than adding instant volume, results build gradually over approximately 6 to 12 weeks following each session. You won’t see a dramatic change the day you walk out of the clinic — instead, friends, family and even you yourself will likely notice a steady improvement in skin firmness, density and contour over the following weeks and months.

For full, optimal results, most clients benefit from a course of 2 to 3 sessions, spaced around 4 to 6 weeks apart. This allows each treatment to build on the collagen-stimulating effects of the last, leading to a more complete and longer-lasting improvement than a single session alone.

One of the great advantages of PLLA over many hyaluronic-acid fillers is longevity: because the results come from genuine collagen regeneration rather than a temporary filling effect, the improvements from a full course of PLLA treatment can last up to 18 to 24 months — significantly longer than most traditional dermal fillers.

Am I a Good Candidate?

PLLA treatment is ideal if you want a very natural, gradual improvement in your skin’s firmness and volume, rather than an immediate, dramatic change. If you’ve been put off filler in the past because you didn’t want an obviously "done" look, PLLA’s slow-build, collagen-led approach is often exactly what you’re looking for.

It’s also a wonderful option if you’re experiencing more general facial volume loss or skin laxity rather than one specific concern, since PLLA works across the treated area to restore overall structure and quality rather than just adding volume to a single point. Clients looking for long-lasting results who don’t want to commit to frequent top-up appointments also tend to be excellent candidates, given how long the effects of a full course can last.

We offer two PLLA products to suit different goals and budgets: Sculptra, the original FDA-approved option, from £550, and Aesplla, a newer alternative delivering excellent results, from £350. During your consultation we’ll talk through your skin, your goals and your budget, and recommend whether Sculptra, Aesplla, or a tailored course of either is the right fit for you.

Aftercare

Caring for your skin properly in the days following PLLA treatment helps the product settle evenly and supports the best possible collagen-stimulating results. Your practitioner will talk you through exactly what to do before you leave, but here’s what you can generally expect:

  • Massage the treated area exactly as instructed by your practitioner — PLLA often benefits from a specific massage protocol (sometimes known as the "5-5-5 rule": five minutes, five times a day, for five days) to help distribute the product evenly and reduce the chance of lumps forming.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and excessive heat (saunas, hot baths, sunbeds) for 24 to 48 hours after treatment, as these can increase swelling and affect how the product settles.
  • Mild swelling or small bumps at the injection sites are completely normal and are simply part of your body’s natural response — these typically settle within a few days to a couple of weeks.
  • Contact the clinic if you have any concerns at all during your recovery — we’re always happy to check in on your progress and reassure you along the way.
